Shiva Telephone Tree Our shul is forming a Shiva Telephone Tree to fulfil the mitzvah of assisting members who experience a bereavement. We would like to assemble a roster of congregants who would be willing to come for prayers at shiva houses when a minyan is needed. If you would be willing to put your name on the roster and fulfil this important mitzvah, please contact Tom Klein at Bossman@ecologicaltech.com or Dena Taylor at denataylor@utoronto.ca and give us the following information:
- Your name and contact information (phone, cellphone and/or e-mail) which we can use to reach you at short notice if necessary.
- The general geographical area you live or work in (so we don’t contact you for a shiva that is hard for you to get to).
- Tell us if you are able to lead the service if necessary.
Passover Food Drive: Passover is coming soon and once again we have been asked to contribute to the National Council of Jewish Women of Canada’s Food Drive. Recipients are individuals living in poverty, recent immigrants in need, people with disabilities, people in shelters, etc.
Ways to contribute:
- Monetary donation (tax receipts will be issued by Council).
- mail – forms available at the shul;
- online – www.pfd@ncjws-ts.org;
- phone - 416.633.5100 and ask for Dara.
- Donate Passover foods – a list of preferred items is available at the shul.
- Volunteer during packing times (March 11-21 except Fridays & Saturdays.)
- Volunteer to deliver contributions collected on Sunday, March 25 at Council House.
If you choose the first option, you might consider letting the PFD Committee know that your contribution comes from the Beach Synagogue. This way we will be able to announce our total achievement in shul. Several people have already picked up donation forms – we are on our way to making sure that many will be able to have a wonderful Seder and Passover foods for the whole week. Thanks to Channah Cohen for acting as liaison on this project.
